Writing a Setting description

In Room 8 we are learning to write a setting,

Mr Weaver read a little example of a setting. Then we closed our eyes and visualised what our setting would look like. Straight away we went back to our desks and started drawing what we saw in our minds. Then we used our pictures to write about our setting. Then after we wrote our setting we checked our work, unlined and changed any errors, and finally we wrote it onto our art as our published piece of writing.

 This is my setting description:

"One morning I got up early and went down to look at the beautiful view. There was a red sky and the green grass blowing in the wind. The flowers blooming. The sun was the best. It was a beautiful shade of yellow with a little bit of orange. It was a lovely view."

Here is a video we created to help people become more aware of this issue.

Ask students in Room 8 what you can do to help our environment.

Rugby 7's

In room 8 we were very proud to contribute three students who went to rugby 7's in the recent tournament out of school. These talented rugby players were:

Jacob, Sam and Zane.

We asked them about the day and what they liked most they said:

"The best part about Rugby 7's was getting trys and tackling other players. I also liked wearing the cool jerseys." - Sam

"I really liked it because we had no school and we versed Nayland school and i got a try. It was fun." - Jacob

"My favourite part of playing rugby was playing against Central school." - Zane.

Great work boys. It was good to hear back from you about the Rugby 7's tournament.

Beach Planting Day

"Dear Mum's and Dad's,

On the 17th of August, Room 8 went beach planting. We walked down to the beach at 10minutes past 9. When we got there the teachers had a quick discussion about going to the beach or the back beach for a change. We went to the back beach.

It was really muddy, the sand was all squishy. When we reached the place we were planting, everyone got a spade and some fertiliser. It feeds plants for 12 months.

First we had a talk about it and then got started. We had to pick a buddy, my buddy was Kaitlyn. My mum was there to help Kaitlyn and me. Mum dug holes with the shovel while Kaitlyn and me put in the spinifex, the type of plant we were given. Then we sprinkled some of the fertiliser. Kaitlyn, Mum and I buried around 60 plants. It was so much fun! My favourite part of planting was everything!"

By Lily.

After we came back from the beach we wrote our own recounts of our experience at the beach.

I really enjoyed reading them all.

Cheers Mr Weaver.

Conservation Unit

Hi all,

Room 8 recently did a survey on how many students walk, bike or scooter to school as a way of encouraging the school to reduce emissions in our atmosphere.

We presented this at assembly.
